What to Do in a Dental Emergency (Before You Reach Us)
Dental emergencies are stressful, but quick, calm action can save a tooth and ease your pain. Here's what to do for the most common situations — and remember, call us right away so we can get you in the same day.
Knocked-out tooth
Pick the tooth up by the crown (the white part), not the root. Gently rinse it without scrubbing. If you can, place it back in the socket; if not, keep it in milk. Time matters — call us immediately.
Severe toothache
- Rinse with warm salt water.
- Gently floss to remove any trapped food.
- Use a cold compress for swelling.
- Take over-the-counter pain relief as directed — and call us.
Chipped or broken tooth
Save any pieces, rinse your mouth, and use a cold compress to reduce swelling. Avoid chewing on that side until we see you.
When to call urgently
Swelling, bleeding that won't stop, or severe pain deserve same-day attention. We keep emergency slots open every day — call (561) 264-2264.
